Background

Voice over IP provider Skype is one of the most downloaded pieces of software in history but it is still a secret. The software allows users to speak to each other free of charge using a headset and their computer's internet connection. Money conscious and computer literate local and overseas students were the target audience and an innovative series of flash animated advertisements was devised to increase awareness amongst London student population.

Campaign

SUBtv ran a high frequency airtime campaign to push students online to download the application.

Results

Skype ran a seven week campaign in the capital and pre- and post- campaign awareness found that Skype’s unprompted recall had doubled to the same level as O2 and Vodafone – a remarkable result considering the budgets involved. SUBtv have since enjoyed a long term relationship with Skype and assisted other supporting activities including sampling teams and placement of door hangers in halls of residence.
